Clerical
employees at the University of California elected the Coalition
of University Employee (CUE) in November 1997. CUE's victory was
the culmination of a grassroots effort begun in 1995 by clerical
workers UC-wide. Over 18,000 strong, and stretching from San Diego
to Davis, our unit is one of the largest bargaining units in the
western United States.
Voters
chose CUE over the AFSCME, the union that has represented UC clericals
since 1983, and over "No Representation," the option
promoted by UC management.
6340
valid ballots were cast and counted in the election, and CUE won
3955 or 63% of the votes.
1346
ballots were cast for AFSCME (21%), and 1039 (16%) were cast for
"no representation".
