Bargaining Representative Needed for Upcoming Contract Talks

The collective bargaining agreement between CUE and the University of California expires in late September 2008. Local 10 Santa Cruz sends a representative to the negotiations between the Union and the University and is currently seeking two members of the CUE workforce to sit on the bargaining team. Preparations for bargaining will begin in April 2008. Training by Local 10 staff and officers will be provided.

Led by Amatullah Alaji Sabrie, the Chief Negotiator for the team, bargainers will engage in discussions with the University, report information back to Local 10 officers and staff, and help communicate directly with our members about the status of negotiations.

Bargainers can generally expect to travel to other campus locations around the State.  All bargainer's expenses will be covered by the Union. The University will arrange paid release time for all bargaining sessions.

This is a crucial position and very important to the interests of all Local 10 bargaining unit members. To join the negotiations committee, you must be a union member.

If you are interested in the position, want more information about negotiations, time commitments, the process of appointment/election and expectations, please contact Nora Hochman, CUE Organizer, at 420.0258, or email nora at santacruzcue dot org.

In solidarity,
CUE Local 10
