1/27/2009 When: Tuesday, Jan 27th 3:00 - 5:00 PM Where: UCSC Baytree Bookstore Members and allies of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 3299 at the University of California are still fighting for a FAIR CONTRACT. UC has been refusing to agree to fair market standards for service workers at all UC campuses and medical centers. Please join your union officers and staff at some point during this demonstration, if only for a short ten minute break. Given the awesome power and money the University has, it's very important that we send the message that the workers are united, within our own union and with other workers and unions as well. CUE is bargaining with the University. Our issues are similar to AFSCME's: benefits protection, the ability to move through the salary schedule based on longevity or seniority, and others. Because of our shared issues and the fact that the University denies all of its' unionized workers fair wages and working conditions, it's very important that we show our support as AFSCME struggles on.
