AFSCME STRIKE POSTPONED*

The Public Employment Relations Board ordered AFSMCE Local 3299 back to the bargaining table because UC claims they have more to offer.

As you may have heard by now the AFSCME strike was postponed because they had to go back to negotiations with UC. Here is a message from our sisters and brothers from AFSCME:

UC is very worried about the 2 day strike called by patient care and service workers planned for June 4th and 5th, and went to the State Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) to try to stop it.
UC claims they have more to offer at the barganing table. PERB has ordered us back to the table for more negotiations. UC also told PERB we are essential to making UC run and our jobs are too important for us to strike.

If UC truly believes we are essential, their proposals must include equal pay for equal work!

*While AFSCME believes we've reached impasse, we'll return to the bargaining table to continue our efforts to reach agreement and avoid a strike.

AFSCME workers are determined to win a contract that will help patients, students and their families.

They are having a Statewide Action for today, Wednesday, June 4th, and here in Santa Cruz they are having info picketing today, Wednesday, June 4th, and tomorrow, Thursday, June 5th, at the Base of Campus from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

On Friday, June 6th, they are having actions through out the whole day. These are the actions planned for Friday,

  • 10:00 am: Snake March, starting at Oakes.
  • Noon: Convergence at the Quarry Plaza.
  • All afternoon: Mass Rally at the Base of Campus.
Please join our sisters and brothers, but if you can't join them in any of these actions, here are some things you can do to show your support:
  • Wear the AFSCME green to work.
  • Wear an AFSCME button or sticker to work.
  • Put a sign in your workplace that says: Another CUE member supporting AFSCME!
  • Send a letter to Chancellor Blumenthal asking that he support your co-workers by telling the University’s bargaining committee to settle a fair contract with AFSCME now.
