THE AFSCME STRIKE

HOW CAN CUE WORKERS SUPPORT AFSCME WORKERS?

As you all know, AFSCME is on it’s third day of its very courageous strike. Their fight is our fight: getting raises that reflect our economic reality, getting annual step increases, getting dignity and respect on the job by getting a raise.

CUE workers can support AFSCME in a number of important ways:
  1. You can walk the picket line before and after work and on your breaks and lunch hour. It’s harder now for us to get to the base of campus, given that AFSCME shuttle drivers are on strike, but you can carpool down during work. The picket lines are up from 6am – midnight, so there’s plenty of time before and after work.
  2. If you can get approved vacation time off, spend some of it walking the picket line. AFSCME workers and leaders really appreciate seeing us there, building cross-union solidarity.
  3. Wear a CUE SUPPORTS AFSCME sticker at work: those stickers are at the picket line sign-in table at the main entrance, or call the union office and we’ll deliver one to you. Or, you can make your own. Wear it, put a sign on your desk or door, get creative.
  4. Send a letter to Chancellor Blumenthal, asking that he communicate with Labor Relations to get the AFSCME contract settled fairly. CUE is also at the bargaining table right now, so any support from the Chancellor will help us too.
