7/20/2009 CUE workers who are laid off, furloughed (summer, holiday or otherwise), or have your hours reduced, may be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits (UIB) through the State of California. Filing a claim is as easy as going to www.edd.ca.gov. Click on Unemployment. Then click on Apply Online (eapply4UI). CUE Local 10 encourages any and all such CUE workers to file for benefits. Payroll deductions from you and other workers fund the unemployment claims. It's your money you'll be recovering. The union has heard numerous stories of workers being told by UC managers that you are not eligible for unemployment benefits. This may or may not be true and the only way to find out is if you file a claim. Eligibility criteria is established by the State of California, not the employer. If you are initially denied, don't be dismayed. The EDD wrestles with claims from workers employed by a school. You may have to file an appeal of the denied claim. Union staff will be happy to prepare you for the appeal and accompany you as well. For more information, contact Nora Hochman, Local 10 Organizer/Representative, at the CUE office, 831.420.0258. |
