ATTENTION ALL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS!!!!!!

Late last year, the Public Employee Relations Board ordered the University’s Office of the President to make the Assistant IV position available for inclusion on the job roster of CUE positions. UCOP offered it as an optional addition to each campus. Only UC Davis added the position to its roster. UCSC has refused to add it and refused to tell CUE why it doesn’t want the IV position.

The following is a selected salary comparison of the (_) Asst III to the (_) Asst IV. The addition of the IV may prove to be a very important promotional and wage opportunity for many CUE workers.

 IIIIVDifference
Step 1$ 3124/month$ 3646/month$ 522/month
Step 3$ 3423$ 3980$ 557
Step 4.5$ 3669$ 4249$ 580
Step 7$ 4097$ 4740$ 643

The difference is significant and in most cases, the IV wage represents a much higher raise than any reclassification proposed by UCSC.

How do we persuade UCSC to add the (_) Assistant IV position? Who has the authority to require Labor Relations to add it? If it were added, how do we get current Assistant III’s promoted to the IV position?

There are many different strategies, tactics and opportunities for considering this challenge. CUE would like to meet with any Assistants interested in exploring those possibilities.

If you would like to attend a meeting to discuss this, please contact Nora at the Union office, either by email (nora@santacruzcue.org) or by calling the office at 831.420.0258. She can also be reached by cellphone at 831.588.4305.

By coming together to discuss our common challenges, we have the opportunity to change our working conditions. If we do nothing, nothing will change. United workers build a strong and active union. Union staff is here to help you do that.

We look forward to hearing from you.
