CUE/UC CONTRACT RATIFICATION and YOU

It’s expected that sometime in the near future, CUE workers will have the opportunity to consider and vote on (ratify) any and all agreements reached during contract negotiations between the Coalition of University Employees and the University of California.

In order to vote on the contract, you must be an actual member of CUE. You have received this message because according to our records, you are currently a fee-payer, but not a voting union member.

We are writing to encourage all CUE workers to consider becoming union members so that you can participate in this very important process. Unions are democracies requiring the active participation of all members and voting on your labor agreement may be one of the most important rights you have.

Union dues are 0.05 percent of your monthly gross wages, averaging around $14.00 to $16.00 per month for most workers. The financial difference (increase) between being a union member and a fee payer could range from $10.00 - $15.00 per year. In addition, a union member has the right to run for and hold union office, become a shop steward, and participate in the operation of your local (Santa Cruz) union affairs.

Please contact the union office, either by email at cueorganizer at cruzio dot com or by calling 831.420.0258 to request a union membership designation form. We’ll be happy to deliver one to you and make sure that it’s filed with UCSC.

A union is only as strong as the activism of its members. We look forward to hearing from you.
