On February 2, CUE Local 10 held a General Membership meeting to discuss the very real potential for more layoffs at UCSC. At that meeting, a union committee was formed to continue working on proposals that could save jobs. The committee has met twice since then, and union staff attended an additional worksite meeting to talk about workers rights if and when laid off and alternatives to layoffs.

Union staff drafted proposals that will be presented to University Labor Relations in a meeting scheduled for March 2. Four CUE workers will attend that meeting.

In addition, one committee member will join union staff in approaching an individual department to show ways that the department could be increasing its revenues. That meeting will take place at a later date.
